Spurn Peninsula is a unique place. A three and a half mile long sand and shingle spit extending out in to the Humber Estuary. Spurn is a National Nature Reserve owned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and is protected by several national and international conservation designations for its ornithological importance. |
The point provides a unique site to position the lifeboat, as it is along side the deep-water channels at the entrance to the Humber Estuary. The lifeboat station at spurn has the only full time paid lifeboat crew in Britain. The crew live along with their families in RNLI houses on the point.
